Annular Eclipse 2027

Planning ranking · v1

Best Places to See the 2027 Annular Eclipse in Argentina & Uruguay

There is no universal “best place.” An eclipse base is a trade-off between likely sky, annularity duration, accommodation depth and your ability to move when the forecast changes.

How the Planning Score works

40% historical sky signal (100 − 6 February cloud frequency), 25% annularity duration, 20% accommodation depth and 15% weather-escape flexibility. It is a decision aid, not a weather forecast.

#1

Viedma

Argentina

Choose Viedma over a bigger resort when weather resilience and the ability to move matter more than nightlife or hotel choice.

#4

Mar del Plata

Argentina

Probably the strongest commercial base and the easiest for families, but arrive with a genuine Plan B rather than assuming you will observe from the beach.

Our comfort pick in Uruguay; less compelling if historical cloud is your only metric.

Maldonado

Uruguay

Potentially better than Punta del Este for car-based Plan B travel; less appealing if your priority is a walkable beach holiday.

Tandil

Destinations still waiting for comparable climate data

We do not penalise them with invented numbers. They may be excellent for duration and travel experience, but remain outside the main ranking until the climate input is comparable.

If sky comes first

Start with Viedma and Esquel. Their historical cloud signals are the strongest among the bases verified so far.

If you want the easiest holiday

Mar del Plata and Punta del Este have much deeper visitor infrastructure and work even if you do not want an expedition-style trip.

If duration comes first

Villa Gesell approaches eight minutes, but we keep its weather out of the ranking until a comparable series is verified.
