Annular Eclipse 2027

The most important decision cannot be locked today

2027 Annular Eclipse Weather & Plan B: How to Reduce Cloud Risk

You can choose a smart base months in advance. The exact viewing site should remain flexible until useful forecasts exist. Our strategy deliberately separates those two decisions.

First: these percentages are NOT a 2027 forecast

Timeanddate reports how often 6 February has been cloudy since 2000 for selected locations. We use it as a historical comparison signal—not as a literal probability that 6 February 2027 will be cloudy.

Same method throughout: historical 6 February cloud signal since 2000 in each city’s cited source. We do not transfer one city’s figure to another.

Plan A/B/C by time remaining

Months out

Book the base, not the field

Choose a region that already makes sense for historical climate, accommodation and mobility. Prefer reasonably flexible booking terms and secure a car early if your Plan B depends on moving.

7–10 days

Watch broad patterns, not exact kilometres

Forecasts begin to help identify scenarios, but are still too early for committing to a specific roadside field. Compare broad Patagonia, Atlantic and inland corridors.

48–72 hours

Narrow the options

Move from three plans to one or two plausible corridors. Review models, official weather sources, roads, fuel, parking and realistic drive times.

Eclipse morning

Move only for a real advantage

Observed cloud, satellite imagery and very short-range forecasts matter more than climatology. Avoid late chases and congested roads: arriving safely matters more than a marginal theoretical sky advantage.

What makes a good Plan B

01

Different direction

A Plan B 15 km along the same coast may share exactly the same cloud. Alternatives should meaningfully change microclimate or corridor.

02

Viable route

Plan for event traffic, not a normal Tuesday drive time. Avoid relying on one narrow road.

03

Do not chase through the eclipse

Set a hard decision deadline. If the sky advantage is not clear, stop driving and set up with time to spare.

How this page will evolve

During 2026 this remains a climate-and-strategy guide. Once useful forecasting range arrives in January/February 2027, we will add forecast layers, update timestamps and recommendations that clearly separate observations, model data and editorial judgement.
